Becoming a Member
If you may be interested in becoming a member of the Illinois Steelheaders, guests are always welcome to attend meetings to see if this is the club for you.
We meet each 3rd Thursday of the month, August through May (no meetings in June and July) at Hackney’s Restaurant; 241 South Milwaukee Avenue; Wheeling, Illinois. [approximately ¼ mile south of Dundee Rd.]. The dinner meetings start at 7:00 p.m. in the lower level banquet room.
You may wish to attend one of our future meetings and consider joining our club if you are interested in a club that:
- Shares ideas with all of its members.
- Fishes Lake Michigan’s shoreline and tributaries in all four of the lake’s surrounding states.
- Prepares and creates many of their own flies (as well as other baits such as spawn, spinners or plugs) and builds many of its own species-specific rods.
- Has a wide diversity of members from “fly only” fishermen to those using traditional tackle as well.
- Believes in conservation of natural resources and practices mostly “catch and release” fishing.
- Meets 10 months each year (no June or July meeting) and issues a newsletter for the months they meet.
- Has presentations by informative speakers, in addition to our own members, including top anglers and DNR personal.
- Has demonstrations designed to keep the members informed about fly-tying, tackle, fishing tips and techniques as well as the state of our ever changing fishery.
- Has a library of books and videotapes for free use by its members.
- Has been active in Illinois since 1981, over 28 years.
Please complete and submit the membership application form along with your dues payment. The information you submit will be employed in the distribution of the newsletter and to compile a club roster which is periodically distributed to the membership.
